Join us for an evening of storytelling and networking

New Zealand is now at a turning point, our tech sector has birthed several substantial new wealthy and our economy is beginning to show signs of dynamism. But it won’t last unless wealth is retained, succession of it planned and the attitude to wealth matures.

We are delighted to have Tony Caughey of Smith & Caughey fame and Bruce Sheppard, CEO of Gilligan Sheppard as our main speakers, hosted by GS partner Joshna Mistry. We have also assembled a panel of generational successors for an interactive Q&A session.

Guest Speaker and Panelist: Tony Caughey

Chairman of Smith & Caugheys retail department store

Tony is a fourth-generation director of Smith and Caughey Limited. He has chaired the company for the last 14 years, having taken over the chairmanship from his father Bill, who worked in the business for 71 years. Last year, the board appointed a new Managing Director, Edward Caughey, a fifth-generation family member.

Tony has an MBA from the Harvard Business School, he is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors, and a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand (FACA). He holds several directorships of both private and not for profit organisations and was an external advisor on Monetary Policy to the Governor of the Reserve Bank. In 2014 he was appointed as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for services to education and business.

Main Speaker: Bruce Sheppard

CEO of Gilligan Sheppard

Bruce Sheppard co-founded Gilligan Sheppard (GS) in 1985. Strategically he has successfully positioned GS as a wealth services firm. We help clients generate, maintain, and optimise wealth through business and investment.

At Gilligan Sheppard, we want a world where collaboration trumps competition, and where people participate honestly and openly by not being fake. Relationships trump digits (money) and a world where the good of something greater than self, trumps self-interest. And all of this is supported by an environment where trust trumps fear. A world that is striving to improve and is continuously thinking about how to make each day and each life better.

Panelist: Jacqui Bensemann

Managing Director of Argus Fire Protection

Jacqui Bensemann found herself at the helm of Argus Fire Protection when her father passed suddenly. Today, Jacqui oversees the Argus Fire Protection strategy, business operations and client relationships as the Managing Director. Jacqui has 40 years’ experience in the fields of banking, public accountancy, management consultancy and general management both in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Panelist: Nicholas Lee

Financial and Operations Director of KPac

Nicholas has been unloading containers from a young age. He was called home 23 years ago after a math degree at Cambridge to “help out” with the family business – KPAC, flexible packaging experts. Following his father’s death, he continued to manage the business with his mother and later another brother. The last 20 years have notably involved trade complexity due to the GFC, building a manufacturing facility in China, and a warehouse in Auckland.

Now a father with children, aged 8 and 12, he has diversified his focus to climate advocacy, sustainable governance, and urban development.
