About the Speakers

Nick Tuffley, Chief Economist at ASB
Since starting out in 1997 as an economist, it’s fair to say Nick has seen a few hair-raising moments over the years, including the Asian Financial Crisis and the Global Financial Crisis.
One of Nick’s strengths is his ability to communicate complex ideas in a readily understandable and entertaining way. He thrives on helping people understand the economic environment to help enrich the quality of their business or personal life. He’s proud to lead a team that has won two Forecast Accuracy Awards from Consensus Economics, and has a strong track record with their Official Cash Rate and dairy price forecasts.
Nick grew up in Christchurch and graduated with a Master of Commerce degree from the University of Canterbury. He learned his economic ropes at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand before a long stint as a Senior Economist at Westpac, and joined ASB as Chief Economist in 2007.
 
Yi Ping Ge, Accountant & Partner at Gilligan Sheppard
Yi Ping has been advising and assisting Gilligan Sheppard clients on a range of business topics including tax, risk protection, due diligence, trust formation, budgeting, cash-flow and debt mitigation for more than ten years. Yi Ping’s expertise is international tax planning and issues that concern immigrants from China. Yi Ping has established a good reputation in the Chinese business society and is dedicated to serving her clients with her excellent communication skills, knowledge and diligence.
Yi Ping grew up in Zhejiang province in China. She initially trained and obtained a Engineering degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China and later on obtained her Commerce degree from Auckland University, New Zealand.
 
Eva Ho, Barrister & Solicitor at Focus Law
Eva has more than 20 years of experience in law, with special knowledge in property, commercial and family law. She has also helped many migrants gain residency in New Zealand.
After working for a large Auckland legal firm, Eva established her own law firm Focus Law in 2005.
Eva was born in Hong Kong and speaks fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese. She received her law degree from the University of London and her Masters of Art from the University of York in England. Eva is a keen hiker. Outside of work you will find her in the bush, by the sea shore, or on an offshore island.
 
Michael Kan Chen-Yu, Barrister & Solicitor at Michael KAN Law
With Michael’s continued societal contributions in New Zealand since (1992) and his legal background, Michael is a lawyer who not only knows the law, but also how it all works in real life, out of the vacuum.
Michael has been practising exclusively on criminal law matter since graduating with an LLB from Auckland University in 2004. Being a dedicated and relentless trial lawyer, he strives to achieve the best possible outcome for different types of clients who are charged with criminal offense. He represents them regularly at the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal in New Zealand.
