The Family Office: feeling humbled

It feels like the right time of year to sit back and reflect on what’s been happening, and what’s to come. When I am trusted to take care of administration on behalf of another person or family, I never take it for granted and it’s something I hold in great esteem. I’m feeling very privileged and humbled.

How we have helped…

The Family Office took on the management of residential rental properties while the owner was away having the time of his life cruising the United States of America for a few months, and I gladly heard all about the trip upon his return. I was given a very detailed update on the properties before he left, and when we first discussed the fixed period and the tasks involved, he told me the worst that could happen – a plumbing issue on the weekend. Personally, I felt this was an understatement as we had plumbing issues for three or four weeks in a row, and as he said, they always happened during the weekend! But with the help of the internet and great communication, we were able to sort everything without any stress. I enjoyed the problem-solving and felt like we achieved a great outcome for the client with a smooth handover at the end of his trip. I’d be happy to look after them all again.

I also had the opportunity to meet some amazing clients who have had unfortunate health issues this year. I was able to get to know these clients, arrange life organisers for them, and remove the administration of small businesses, along with discussions about family and wishes. These families and individuals are so strong and capable that is often hard for them to let go and let someone else help.

Building relationships is one of the most enjoyable parts of leading any Family Office. It is my priority to be there when they need it most. Some families have some extreme experiences, and I am grateful that I can help in a small way to take the pain out of the administration that is required. The families that I work with are all different and unique and I’m finding that customised solutions are working best. The Family Office isn’t about putting your family into a mould or giving you a cookie-cutter set of services.

Next year I look forward to growing The Family Office and taking on new clients, big and small. Please give me a call to have a catch up over coffee or lunch.
