Bookkeeping is essential to expand

ARTICLE SERIES: KEEPER OF BOOKS

Hiring an accountant is a difficult decision for many; it is strenuous evaluating exactly what financial guidance we seek, and, more often than not, it’s simply a luxury, a situational investment. And I could not have agreed more… at least until I joined Gilligan Sheppard.

I began my accounting career as a junior accountant handling basic data entry, and eventually moved up the ranks to become a senior company accountant of a global company with offices in both Australia and the United States. My jobs involved the preparation and monitoring of financial records and analysis, providing management information, and ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and the organisation’s policies. My work experiences equipped me with excellent analytical and organisational skills as well as the ability to manage deadlines. Now, you are probably wondering, how exactly does someone with my work experience end up here?

A deep conversation with Gilligan Sheppard’s leadership team completely refurbished my perception. Like other accounting firms that specialise in niche services such as tax strategy, Gilligan Sheppard also offered bookkeeping and payroll services, tax preparation and business valuations that help business owners stay financially organised, tax compliant and most importantly, prepared for business growth.

After over 15 years as an internal accountant, I firmly believe that bookkeeping is essential for businesses of all sizes, including sales, expenses, salary payments – in fact, every movement of money in and out of your business. I won’t go into too much detail on the logistics behind bookkeeping, but it goes without saying that proper bookkeeping directly affects the expansibility of an enterprise. Particularly, start-ups that require the full attention of its founder, including his or her attention to expand the idea into a variable product or service. Your time should be devoted to strategy, marketing, funding, and other key areas that require your focus over the daily operational tasks of a business.

In the past year, and with everyone’s support here at Gilligan Sheppard, we had the chance to review some of our clients’ bookkeeping procedures with various solutions to help them minimise cost and maximise efficiency. For example, we helped one client restructure their accounting procedure to allow the whole team to work seamlessly across different countries. We also helped some of our clients successfully outsource their bookkeeping to us, saving them time and effort. For some clients, we chose to provide tailored training to their own accounts team, guiding them to bring their books to a very high standard within the required timeframe, heavily nullifying any time and cost required during end of year auditing. We even performed back office roles for a couple of our clients paying bills and sorted out their employee queries.

We are a group of people that are passionate on bookkeeping and like to be part of your business team sharing your values and save your time you could use to take a vacation or spend time with your family.

We are currently offering free evaluation on our clients’ bookkeeping. Please feel free to talk to either your accountant, or alternatively navigate our front desk to converse with me.

If you don’t know where to begin, want to talk through something, or have a specific question but are not sure who to address it to, fill in the form, and we’ll get back to you within two working days.
