Suelem Da Costa Pereira

Bachelor of Applied Management, Accounting Major (CAANA/CPA Pathway)
Advanced Intermediate Accountant

Suelem is originally from Brazil, where she studied for a Bachelor of Law degree. In 2015, life gave her the opportunity to move to New Zealand, and she fell in love with the place. She has been working in the business environment since she was 16 years old, and to grow her career in this area, she decided to pursue another degree in New Zealand. In 2021, Suelem completed her Bachelor of Applied Management, majoring in Accounting (CAANZ/CPA Pathway) from Manukau Institute of Technology. Through the university internship project, she received her first job offer as an accountant and has worked in the field since.

Suelem joined Gilligan Sheppard with three and a half years of experience in preparing financial statements, tax returns, GST returns, management reports, and managing a portfolio of clients across various industries.

The part of her job Suelem enjoys the most is the opportunity to interact directly with clients and provide them with the necessary support. Working as an accountant allows her to engage with people from different cultures and backgrounds. She does not just assist her clients—she learns a lot from them as well. This exchange of knowledge, support, and experiences is something she loves about the role. Suelem also enjoys being analytical and finding solutions to challenging cases.

Acknowledging your limitations is the first step to overcoming them.

Outside of work, Suelem enjoys going to the beach every weekend and having a picnic by the sea. She also enjoys paddleboarding, especially in the summertime. In winter, she likes reading a good book, watching TV series, and decorating her house. Cooking dinner with her partner is one of the most enjoyable parts of her day; they talk about their day, drink a glass of good wine, and listen to a variety of music. Suelem is interested in learning about history, psychology, and philosophy. She also likes painting when inspiration strikes.
