Gabby first came to New Zealand from the Canton Province in China, as an exchange student. She discovered that there were more learning opportunities here, so she stayed. After spending eight years in the accounting industry, two of which were with a travel agency, Gabby left the work force to start her own family.
Seeking a firm that valued its employees and provided flexible working hours, Gilligan Sheppard was a perfect fit. On arrival, Gabby was surprised to learn it really does value work and life balance and actually cares for its employees – it provides a lot of flexibility and areas to grow.
“It’s a firm actually doing what they say they do.”
Gabby enjoys meeting with clients, finding out about them and their situations, then helping them to succeed. Her biggest piece of advice…
“Find the right employer, be happy doing your job. This will encourage you to go the extra mile for clients which results in happy clients.”
Outside of work, Gabby enjoys travelling, shopping and food. Gabby has what she describes as an ‘Asian sweet tooth’, not as sweet as the food in New Zealand – dishes like Panna Cotta, Tiramisu (well, anything with coffee in it really).
Her favourite place to travel is back home – because it’s the people (Mum, Dad, brother and sister), not the place that make a destination great. Next on the list would be Queenstown, it has impressed her with how beautiful and different from anywhere else it is.
