Under Pressure

As I write this, I’m brimming with emotion and pride in my country. I’m proud of our determination, resilience, leadership and love as a nation.

I look at the people around me that I love and can see some of them struggling with mental health and can feel their pain and I just want to take it away, all I can offer is my love. I can feel the love from my friends and family. Others giving me gentle reassurance about my future, whilst taking on their own burden and I feel their love.

I am acutely aware that for some, the sacrifice has been great and painful and that it may take quite some time for some of us to recover. But we will recover and I’m optimistic and curious about what our new world will be like.

It’s times like this, we as humans realise that any control we think we have, is just an illusion. But we do have control over something and that is the love we put out into the world and for me, the lyrics of this song, sum all of this up perfectly!

Pressure pushing down on me
Pressing down on you, no man ask for
Under pressure that burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on streets

It’s the terror of knowing what the world is about
Watching some good friends screaming
“Let me out!”
Pray tomorrow gets me higher
Pressure on people, people on streets

Turned away from it all like a blind man
Sat on a fence but it don’t work
Keep coming up with love but it’s so slashed and torn
Why, why, why?
Love, love, love, love, love
Insanity laughs under pressure we’re breaking

Can’t we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can’t we give love that one more chance?
Why can’t we give love, give love, give love, give love
Give love, give love, give love, give love, give love?

‘Cause love’s such an old-fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves

This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves under pressure
Under pressure
Pressure
